This day is a big day for BRAVE Books. All across the country, there is a movement happening. Over 300 library readings are going on in forty-six states. People from all walks of life are reading kids’ books that uphold traditional Christian values. This seems like something that shouldn’t be a big deal, yet unfortunately, it is because of the culture we find ourselves in.
Just like our public education system, we find American libraries inundated with a political ideology that not only pushes woke drag queen story hours but also discriminates against Americans with traditional values. Numerous times, these public libraries have tried to cancel BRAVE story hours and deny Americans the God-given right of free speech. The director of the American Library Association even had an open Zoom call with librarians across the country to find ways they could cancel these events. She brainstormed some ideas that involved booking their library rooms up on August 5th so no one could use them or having LGBTQ events going on so that families at the BRAVE story hours would be uncomfortable. It is crazy to see this all happening, yet the more it happens, the more people get involved, and the more the BRAVE story hours grow.
It’s really exciting to witness, but as much as today is a big day for BRAVE Books and Freedom of Speech, it’s also a big day for my wife Joy and I. Today is our seventeenth anniversary. The time has flown, but I am so thankful to have her. It’s because of her that we have two amazing kids. It’s because of her that I started writing and eventually landed an incredible job at BRAVE Books, and it’s because of her that I came to know Christ. Everything I have is largely because of her, and I couldn’t be more thankful. Though I sometimes take her for granted, she is the greatest blessing that has ever happened to me.
Despite moving across the country and picking up our lives twice in the past couple of years, she has rarely complained and supported me every step of the way. I couldn’t imagine anyone else being a better support, encouragement, and joyful companion alongside me on this crazy adventure. Ultimately, she is one of the strongest people I know, and while this is the best country in the world, it will only remain that way as long as parents like her (and I) and all those holding BRAVE story hours are willing to stand up and fight for the next generation. But the good news is that we are not alone (as is evidenced by today). Many others out there are waking up, and the movement has just begun!
Parents Stand Up at Over 300 Libraries Across the Country
I just read about this movement yesterday so unfortunately too late to make arrangements at my local library for the Brave story time. Maybe next time!
