Is My Doctor a White Supremacist Now?
MSNBC recently posted an opinion piece, “Why the Far-Right is Really Into Home Fitness." It goes on to educate us on how the far-right uses fitness to recruit new members. Men are being lured into these groups thinking they are just a few bros working out, only to be converted by these far-right extremists.
Apparently, what these far-right extremists do is they lure men into their workout groups, and then they share far-right extremist memes and articles. You know, articles that might insinuate a man and a woman aren't the same thing, or that it's harmful to give kids puberty blockers, or harmful to surgically transition children, or wrong for teachers to hide a child’s gender identity from their parents, or wrong for drag queens to read sexually explicit material to kids, or wrong to put pornographic material in schools. These exercise groups are literally a hotbed of far-right extremist ideas like that. It’s pretty troubling, and after reading the article, it really made me realize something about myself.
I need to start getting in shape. I’m really bad at it. Okay, I understand there are various other reasons people work out. Many are guilt-tripped by doctors, want to avoid diabetes and heart issues, be in better shape so that they can spend more quality time with their children, or just live longer lives so they can be there for their families. But really, do those benefits outweigh the cost of actually exercising? Not in my opinion.
But after I read that MSNBC article, I realized an even better motivation for working out than being around to see your grandkids grow up, and that is not being confused for a liberal. To be honest, it can be hard to tell who is liberal and who is conservative, with almost no one wearing a mask in public anymore. If a flabby physique is the new indicator, however, then I must look about as liberal as you can get. It’s about time I started getting off my butt and started getting in shape. I have to start pumping some iron, running, jogging, lifting weights, push-ups, sit-ups, and all that stuff. I really can’t neglect my health any longer. I’ve got to take it seriously.
Which is why I want to also thank MSNBC. Thanks to their op-ed, I’ve gotten to the gym two days in a row (a new record). But as I continue on this journey, what I am even more excited about than not ‘being confused for a liberal’ is being an inspiration to other dad’s out there.’ If I can do it, then so can you! Don’t give up. Just take it one step at a time, and if you feel yourself waning, imagine the sense of disdain leftists will have for you when they see your bulging biceps and chiseled abs. Imagine the horrified looks and the whispers as you walk by Trader Joe’s or the Gap.
This should be all the motivation you need, but if you are also looking for community and would like workout tips from a fitness icon like myself, then I invite you to contact me for more info on my new workout group (Jim’s Guns). In it, you will find daily motivation, workout secrets, anti-abortion articles, and pro-school choice memes that will take you to that next level.
